NSG and SYO Community partnership announcement
Feb 06, 2019
Northside Group, part of Ramsay Health Care, and the Sydney Youth Orchestras (SYO) are excited to announce a community partnership for 2019.
With 1 in 5 Australians now affected with a mental health problem we are proud to launch educational workshops and support in the areas of prevention and resilience training for community partners in a non-inpatient setting to assist with this significant issue within our society.
Northside Group, with four facilities across Sydney, is the largest provider of private mental health services in NSW, and has a dedicated inpatient and day patient service for young adults. Northside Group is committed to the delivery of, and access to, the best possible mental health services for all Australians through care, treatment, education and community support.
Sydney Youth Orchestras is the leading orchestral training and education provider in New South Wales, with a membership of over 550 young musicians, aged 6-25, placed within 12 orchestras. SYO teaches young musicians valuable practical skills transforming students into professionals. SYO is a place where, through music, talented young instrumentalists come together to grow, to learn, and to contribute to Australia's cultural landscape.
The aim of the partnership is two-fold: Northside Group will provide expert clinicians to support SYO, their tutors, performers & families in building resilience and dealing with issues such as performance anxiety; and SYO will bring small orchestral groups into the St Leonards Clinic on a monthly basis as part of the Northside Group's holistic approach to health care.
"We are very excited about the year ahead" said Northside Group CEO Anne Mortimer. "The synergies between our two organisations were apparent from our first meeting, and we welcome the opportunity to support SYO's youth and young adult population via our specialised mental health workshops."
"We are thrilled to be a part of this unique partnership" said SYO General Manager Mia Patoulios. "With Northside Group's expert guidance, SYO aims to build an environment for young musicians where all aspects of their development are nurtured including positive mental health. SYO are also looking forward to supporting Northside Group's programs through the healing power of music."
The 2019 program will include the following:
- workshops led by Northside Group's young adult team focusing on resilience and mental health for parents of SYO performers, SYO's leadership group, SYO's international touring group, and senior high school SYO performers leading up to the HSC;
- monthly performances by SYO ensembles at Northside Group St Leonards Clinic, as part of the inpatient social health program.
