Our Programs: Overview
Overview
The hospital has four specialised treatment Units:
Drug & Alcohol
This is the largest dedicated service nationally, offering a robust program and effective treatment at both Northside and Northside West Clinics. Patients are encouraged to attend the Supportive day program following discharge from hospital to facilitate ongoing abstinence and recovery. Dr Anthony Sams is Medical Director.
Mood Disorders
This Unit was the first of its kind in Australia. As such it is a centre of excellence and a leader in the quality of care provided. It has been involved in research and teaching across a broad range of treatments including pharmacotherapy, Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and now Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). It runs the Australasian ECT training course for specialists from all over Australia and New Zealand, and developed and implemented a national auditing tool for all mental health facilities owned by Ramsay Health Care. This tool provides valuable data for further research and development purposes. Dr Bill Lyndon is Medical Director.
General Mental Health Disorders
This Unit focuses on general psychiatry and very often accommodates people coming into hospital for the first time, helping them navigate them through the mental health care treatment pathway. The Unit has the only Intensive Care Unit in NSW, which means that patients can be supported in a safe and contained environment. Dr Prem Naidoo is Medical Director.
Eating Disorders at Northside has a well-respected and international reputation, successfully treating eating disorders for many years. Comprehensive day programs help to maintain healthy eating habits and provide continuous support. Professor Jan Russell is Medical Director.
